Greetings, all, from Michael Alewright! For any who might be interested, I am performing the role of Samuel Clemens this weekend in the Pittsburgh premiere of John Guare's "A Few Stout Individuals" at the Tom Foerster Auditorium at CCAC Allegheny Campus (Ridge Avenue on the Northside). The most expensive ticket ("preferred seating") is $5 (General admission is $3, $2 for non-CCAC students with ID, free to CCAC students). Reservations (probably unnecessary) may be obtained by calling 412-237-4448.

Performance times are Friday at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday at 2:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The plot of the play centers around the memoirs General (and former President) Ulysses S. Grant has contracted to write to restore his family fortune, which was lost to a bad investment scheme. Three months after the contract was made his publisher (Samuel Clemens) stops by to see how things are going, only to find the General dying of throat cancer, wheelchair-bound, in constant pain both from the cancer and botched dental surgery, unable even to remember who he is, and seeing the Emperor and Empress of Japan in his parlor. Everyone seeks somehow to exploit Grant for financial gain, but Grant himself is unlikely to live long enough to benefit.

It's quite an interesting show.

- Michael
