Another option would be to use nip2, the vips gui. You can download the
.dmg here:
http://www.vips.ecs.soton.ac.uk/supported/7.32/osx/nip2-7.32.0.app.dmg
Then just drag to install as usual.
That binary is compiled with openslide and openjpeg, so it can view .svs
images. Drag the image in from finder to load, or click File / Open. You'll
get a thumbnail in the main window for your image: double-click that to
open a view window. There are some notes on how to navigate images here:

It doesn't know about pyramids, unfortunately, so you'll find it's slow to
zoom out. If you right-click on the image, select save-as, and save as a
tiff or a jpeg, you'll find navigation is faster.
