I think BigTIFF is superseded by libtiff 4.0, yes? It's in beta.

Ok, I won't have too much time to look right away. I'm happy to include
all these changes, provided that things continue to work on Fedora and
CentOS, as these are our primary platforms. I'd want to look over things
in detail as I merge.

Ooh, that's a little crazy, but I have no problem changing these things
to fix MSVC.
