Hello Ballroom Friends,

OSU Competition:

Our first competition of the year is at Ohio State University during the
last weekend of September, 9/27 - 9/29, which is only a few weeks from
now!. This competition is very newcomer friendly, so we hope to see anyone
and everyone there. At OSU there will be newcomer dancing available in all
styles, and we will have a few ways for you guys to prepare for the
competition before we go, which are listed later in this email 🙂

If you are curious about the schedule, you can find that here:

https://ballroomcompexpress.com/viewschedule.php?cid=147

At OSU, there will be team housing, team dinners, and lots of opportunities
to support your favorite CMU BDC dancers, as well as to meet dancers from
other schools who will be in the competition! In addition to that, we will
also have buddy boats: buddy boats are small groups that are assigned by
the club where we are able to have both newcomers and veterans to allow for
feedback, support, and advice. This is the buddy boat sign-up if you’re
interested:

The pricing is $35 for first-timers and open-only, and $55 for students and
$80 for non-students, which covers travel, housing, and registration fees.
If you are interested you must sign up before 9/21! This will give us time
to complete your registration and ensure that there is housing for everyone
who would like to come. There is also a partnership commitment form which
must be completed by 9/25, you do not need a partner to participate in OSU,
but this will allow us to find you a partner if you do not find one prior
to the competition.

Here is the link to the individual commitment form, and we sincerely hope
to see all of you there!

Mock Competition:

Mark your calendars for our mock competition hosted on 09/21! This will be
a place to practice what you’ve been learning and try out the format of an
official competition! For mock comp and additional newcomer lessons, there
will be another email sent out with the logistics, but please register for
mock comp using this google form by 9/18!

Painting the Fence:

As the first team bonding event of the semester, we will be painting The
Fence on Friday, September 20 (i.e. the night before Mock Comp)! Painting
The Fence is a time-honored CMU tradition for students to participate in
and we welcome you all to join us! We will meet at The Fence pit around
11:45 pm and start painting at midnight. We have to be done by sunrise
(around 6 am) and it must be done entirely by hand, so the more help, the
better and faster we can do it!
