Don,

Didn't see an answer posted for this, so this may help. If you already sent out a post, please disregard.
Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, primarily security, the file type is changed on a download. This is often done by the system changing the extension so the file appears to be something else. It appears in this case that the .exe is changed to .txt so the computer thinks it is a text file and won't run it. The file itself is usually not changed, so If you change the extension back, the file should work. For example, whenever I download the Netbeans plugin, (.nbm), IE thinks it is a compressed file and changes the extension to *.zip. All I do is change the extension back to .nbm and I can add the plugin to Netbeans. If I use Chrome, it does not do that. These issues are all related to security and configuration, and without bothering to figure all that out, first simply try to change the extension, and it should work. If it does not, try another browser, computer, etc...

If you can not see the extensions using windows, locate the "Folder Options" menu item, usually under the "Tools" menu (different locations for different versions of Windows) once in the Folder Options, click the "View" tab and uncheck the "Hide extensions..." item.

Keith

This seems tone a browser-related issue, although someone may have suggestions about how we can fix it at our end. I would recommend trying a different browser to download the file, or to right-click on the download link and specifically save the file to a location (Desktop?) of your machine...

Please keep me posted...

All the best,
Don Slater

Hello,

I am attempting to set up Alice 3.1. The following is what I see when I select the on-line install for a Windows machine. For some reason, my computer is treating it as a text file and not an executable. Ideas?

Thanks,

Mike
