If this is the case, it might be easier to wrap files to download in an innocuous file type or just zip/tar everything with user instructions on what to do.

s case that the .exe is changed to .txt so the computer thinks it is a text file and won’t run it. The file itself is usually not changed, so If you change the extension back, the file should work.  For example, whenever I download the Netbeans plugin, (.nbm), IE thinks it is a compressed file and changes the extension to *.zip.  All I do is change the extension back to .nbm and I
