Unfortunately, we tried out the advice below and it's not a fix on Macs.

Here's the problem in detail (note that it's happening on all Macs that we have access to, Alice 2.2):

- Click on object in world
- Drag "object play sound" into method
- Choose on "record new sound…"
- Dialog box comes up with "Record" and "Play" (which is greyed out), OK and Cancel.
- Click "Record"
- "Record" button changes into a "Stop" button, but the counter does not move forward, so it's clearly not recording.
- Press "Stop" button and nothing changes.

Note that input volume is up, and when we record in Audacity using the exact same settings, it works just fine. Then we can import the sound into Alice. But for kids the age I'm teaching, that amount of disconnect really loses them. It would be so much more effective if they could just record their voices and then hear them played back immediately!

Thanks,
Suki

Then make sure it's not muted and it's turned all the way up. Discovered this by accident, I was so happy it worked. Hope it works for you too.
