alice-teacher backup files

I agree. Alice is a great program, but occasionally it will crash or fail to save. I'm moderately confident the student did something ... unique to make that happen, but I have a difficult time assigning grades to students who lost a week's worth of work because I disabled all backups and the software failed to recover from an error.

I highly recommend allowing at least one backup. I was working with high school students in a fairly locked-down environment where the system controls did not allow Alice to generate any automatic backups. On the rare occasions when Alice would generate an error message which we could not get out of, the students lost all of their work. Our work-around was to have students save their worlds occasionally under another name, in effect creating their own backups.

In the Edit menu bar, select Preferences. In the "Seldom Used" tab, the last option allows
you to set the number of backups.

Hope that helps,

We are having memory problems. How can we set the default to have no backups for the machines for new users? We are stand alones that are networked.
