[SCA-BMDL] Baronial Retaining at Pennsic!

Hello, Barony!

Pennsic is nearly upon us, and I'm here once again as your friendly
Baronial head retainer to coordinate retainers for Their Excellencies for
Pennsic.

At Pennsic, Lady Dorothea will be my deputy head retainer. I have health
issues, so she's going to be doing a lot of the leg work of the job. Lady
Dorothea is an excellent and experienced retainer, and I'm excited to be
working with her.

Never retained before? Baronial retaining is a great way to get your feet
wet. New retainers are welcome! Not sure what retainers do? Here's a great

Keep in mind that Baronial retaining is a little more casual that Royal
retaining.

- make sure to look at all the pages (the tabs in the lower left) and check
back a few times before Pennsic as events are still being added. *The
schedule will be printed on FRIDAY 7/28*. After that you can sign up on the
paper schedule, which will be kept in BMDL camp.


IN PARTICULAR I am looking for retainers for these events:

*The Helga Ball Tournament* - Middle Sat. 12:30-2:30

This will be loads of fun, and as Her Excellency's retainers you'll be sure
to get a great view of the action.


*Opening Ceremonies* - Middle Sat. 7:00pm (likely mustering beforehand)

We had a really great Barony contingent last year at Opening Ceremonies,
and I want a repeat showing! Carry a banner, wear Baronial or Kingdom
colors, sing Songs, and show the Known World how wonderful the BMDL and
Æthelmearc are.


*Monday of War Week* -

Monday evening is jam packed with the Baronial Reception, Baronial Court,
Anna Eisenkopf's vigil, and performances by the Debatable Choir and i
Genesii. We need retainers for the reception, as many as possible for court
(we will do 10-15 minute rotations), and retainers to save front row seats
for the performances (you'll get a great spot!).


*Kingdom Court *- War Week Tues.

Muster is at 5:00 PM in Royal. We need retainers AND CHAMPIONS to process
and rotate during court. Space will likely be very tight, so we will
probably only be able to fit one retainer *or* champion at a time behind
the Baronial thrones. Again, we will be rotating every 10-15 minutes and
ice water and cold towels will be available.


Retaining shifts are an hour long. Please don't overextend yourself -
nobody has to take back to back shifts! Pennsic is more physically
stressful than you may be used to. Wear sturdy shoes, sunscreen, and drink
lots of water. If you feel ill or overheated, please excuse yourself from
your shift and go sit down and drink something. Your health is the most
important thing.

If you have some free time at Pennsic, consider using it to help your
Barony. Retaining is a fun and simple way to serve, and retaining for Her
Excellency Hilderun is extra easy - she doesn't walk very fast! Retainers
are needed for other timeslots as well, including some escort only shifts
where all you need to do is drop Their Excellencies off somewhere and then
you get to leave. Whatever retaining you can do is an enormous help!
