Greetings from the chronicler!

Just a reminder that The Althing is not published in August, due to
Pennsic and the aftermath of war.

It is, however, never too early to submit for the September issue! I'm
looking for more cover artwork and for articles. I can take electronic
or paper submissions, in pretty much any form.

The September Althing will be published after the September Barony
Meeting, so that the changes to Law and Policy can be included.
Deadline for submissions is Barony meeting, September 10th, 2008.

Also, please remember to submit your A&S articles to the A&S issue
editor, Margretha La Fauvelle (lafauvelle at gmail.com).

In addition, my term of office expires in March of 2009, and I am
actively seeking a replacement, as I will not be taking another term,
due to graduate school. If you're interested in the position of
chronicler, please e-mail me.

Hello:

I've recently joined SCA, after having spent several years attending
pennsic with my wife and daughter. We're looking to be involved at the
local level, and I'm trying to find out the best way to do that.

Is the monthly barony meeting a good place to start? Or are there other
gatherings more suitable for newcomers to attend?

Thanks very much,
Gardner

Hi, Gardner! It might be helpful if you gave us an idea of what particular craft or activity interests you have, if any, so that in addition to general involvement at Barony Meeting and events you also can connect with those who share your specific interests. Ours is a very active Barony, with many regular meetings and practices for those with shared interests; the list includes (in no particular order) dance, instrumental music, choir singing, brewing, fighting, fencing, archery, thrown weapons, costuming, ornamental stitchery, other performing arts, materials crafting (e.g., leather, wood, metal), cookery, calligraphy and illumination, and bookbinding.

I'm sure others can throw even more possibilities your way with but little effort. Welcome to our merrily productive chaos!

- Michael

Greetings,

It has been rumored that someone managed to capture I Genesii's most
brilliant performance to date(i.e. our most recent Pennsic performance) on
video. If either you or someone you know has a copy of said video, it would
be most appreciated if we could get a copy. We would all like to see the
performance and until we finish the Bologna University crash course on
astral projecting through time and space the video seems like the best bet.

Please let me know off list if you know the location of such a rare treasure
as our performance.

With much thanks,

Dottore

Good day all,

I apologize for the use of the bandwidth, but both my mother and I are looking for anyone who taped the opening ceremony for the Olympics. My power went out while at Pennsic, and therefore I didn't get it. If anyone has it on either DVD or VHS and is willing to share, please let me know.

I now return you to your usual conversations.

Thank you,
Ming Li

Greetings to all good gentles in the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands.
My name is Guillaume Jean-Pierre de Mortain (mka William Huey) and although
I have been present within your borders for some 4 years now, I must admit
that I have not been active at the local level. (I did attend Pennsics 33
and 37, a few events in Atlantia, the Outlands, and I believe Atenveld
[estrella wars] over the past 4 years). Over the next few months you will
most likely find myself and my lady, Michelle, at dance practice (something
my lady and I would like to do together), scribal guild meetings (something
I've been itching to try my hand at), and fencing practice (I haven't fenced
in a couple of years, but wouldn't mind knocking the rust off). My work
schedule currently precludes my participation in fencing practice on Sundays
at the Washington Blvd. site, however I heard there is a fencing practice on
Tuesdays as well? Can someone be so kind as to provide me with some
additional information as to where and when these take place? I am also
very interested in getting into costuming with a desire to make garb that is
actually period. My persona is late 14th, early 15th C. French. I am, at
best, a beginning sewer and would welcome the advice and assistance of
someone within the Barony that may be willing to lend their expertise and
advise to someone willing to learn the craft.

I am sure I speak for my lady as well when i say that we look forward to
meeting the good people of this area and sharing our interest in the middle
ages with you all.

In Service to the Dream,

Lord Guillaume Jean-Pierre de Mortain
