Presentation on the "Style and Status: Imperial Costumes from Ottoman
Turkey" at the Freer & Sackler Gallery in Washington DC - Vrouwe Odriana
vander Brugghe

The original topic for A&S Night was going to be a Documentation Website,
however, I've been offered the opportunity to go to the Sackler Gallery in
Washington DC this weekend to see the Ottoman Clothing exhibit. I will be
giving a short presentation on the exhibit. This is a lead-in to the
presentation for next month, which will be "Ottoman Turkish Clothing"
presented by Lady Anna Malakina. This is more of an opportunity to
familiarize yourself with the styles and textiles, as well as ooh and ahh
over the truly beautiful exhibit books. The URL for the exhibit is
http://www.asia.si.edu/exhibitions/current/StyleStatus.htm.

This does not mean that if you were planning on bringing your
documentation that you shouldn't. There will be time for that I'm simply
shifting the focus from the Documentation Workshop to a presentation.

Directions:

**WARNING**
An important part of Route 8 is closed after 8:00 p.m., there is an
alternate route home, so never fear, just make sure that you're not trying
to get onto Route 8 after then.

Take your best route to Rt. 8. Follow Route 8 to the intersection of Rt 8
and Harts Run Road (there's a light). From the intersection of Rt 8 and
Rt 28, it's about 10 miles to the intersection.

This is a "T" intersection and if you are traveling on Rt 8 South you will
be turning left onto Harts Run. If you are traveling on Rt 8 North, you
will be turning right. Follow Harts Run Road for .9 of a mile. Our house
is on the right at exactly .9 of a mile. Just before you get to the house
you will see an apartment building and a small business with a HUGE
parking lot. This is where you should put on your turn signal and slow
down. There is a guardrail that begins at the edge of the parking lot for
the business, our bridge is at the break in the guardrail on your right. I
will have on as many lights as possible. The house number is 412.486.0566
should you get lost.
