openslide-java configure

Hi,

The README file in the openslide-java Github project says we need to
configure, make, and make-install.  But... there is no regular configure
file.  There's the configure automake file... but when I run automake, I
get this error:
configure.ac:10: error: possibly undefined macro: AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE

I installed automake with 'brew' (Mac).  Is this a bug, or is there
something I can do?
