Then the bug is in your init scripts or environment.

I always delete the duplicate delivery database when I upgrade.

Possibly where you are creating your UNIX sockets does not have
sufficient privileges?

Just delete /var/lib/imap/deliver.db; it will be automatically
recreated.

cyrus uses /usr/lib/cyrus-imapd/deliver (path??)  what does the cyrus
mailer entry in master.cf look like?  {also why not use LMTP? it is way
more efficient].  I don't know of any reason to use deliver on Cyrus
2.x;  I always that that was an old Cyrus 1.x hold-over.
