I thought it might be a webmail issue. I doubt that there is currently
an adequate solution to this. If you attempt to move the messages to
another mailbox, you will be fighting against the automated behaviour of
mail clients, and any problems you are currently having with
subscriptions hiding the webmail mailboxes will simply be reversed
(messages will seem to disappear). One trick is to put all sent messages
in the user's INBOX when using webmail, but this can be an annoyance to
users who use webmail exclusively, unless they can change the setting
themselves.
