access problems

This is supposed to be sasl_sql_passwd: somepass

Well since you say that local connections are working, then obviously
your imap-local.conf works.  So try using the imap-local.conf in place
of your imapd.conf.  Or do a diff between the two files and make sure
that the "admins: cyrus" is the only difference.  Either way, use what
works, and then eliminate config lines one by one that you dont want to
figure out what exactly is causing this.
