login errors with PDA

Is saslauthd running, and with which authmech (-a option)?   You need to 
make sure that saslauthd is configured correctly (including PAM is using 
it).  The plaintext password that your PDA is sendind is failing 
verification, either because the password doesn't match what the 
saslauthd authmech thinks it is, or because saslauthd is misconfigured.
