I think the following shows that libdb.so already points to the 4.1 package:

[root at mail log]# readelf -d /usr/lib/libdb.so | grep SONAME
 0x0000000e (SONAME)                     Library soname: [libdb-4.1.so]

Does this shed any light on the problem?
