I reconfigured postfix to hand off mail to cyrus (2.1.12) using lmtp
and its working fine.

Even better, now the concurency issue I found has been completely resolved.
Cyrus accepts mail via lmtp even if lengthy mailbox operations are going on
at the same time.
I did some tests with cyrus completely down, and now postfix defers mail as
predicted instead of bouncing.
