I have the exact same problem with sendmail 8.11 not passing the
auth information to cyrus imap. Looking through the sendmail docs,
-D_FFR_DEFAUTHINFO_MECHS seems to be the only relevant option, but
 didnt for me. Has anybody got this combination working?

sendmail 8.11.6 
cyrus imap 2.1.12 
lmtp over unix socket 
"authinfo" file for passing authorization to lmtp
