delete folder does not delete directory

Cyrus 2.1.12 on Solaris 9 (sparc).
It seems that when one deletes a folder via IMAP, the directory under
/var/spool/imap/... is not always removed.  I'm still investigating if
this behaviour depends on the mail client.  Is this a known problem ?
