What can I say? Sebastian's correct -- "ktrace" is closer to "strace".
  Thanks for the tip! :-)

I've got another data point. Since my most recent email, I've been
able to get IMAPD and POP3D to respond. I found, by 100% dumb luck,
that if I run "/usr/cyrus/bin/master &" from the "/usr/cyrus/bin"
directory, that IMAPD and POP3D will happily display their greeting.

Isn't that odd? I've been running MASTER as root this whole time, but
I've been throwing it into the background from whatever directory I
happen to be in. Previously, this has often been the "/etc" directory
(as I've been hacking config files there). However, by chance I
recently spawned MASTER from the the "/usr/cyrus/bin" directory and
IMAPD comes to life with:

Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
* OK powermac7300 Cyrus IMAP4 v2.1.14 server ready

How 'bout that? If this was path problem problem, I would have
expected MASTER to fail to spawn the IMAPD daemon in the past. But it
has previously had no trouble spawning the daemon, so it must have
known where to find it, so it must not be a path problem.

Is it a scratch problem? Does MASTER need to be able to write to the
directory from which it was spawned?

Also, there's still the nagging matter of these DBERRORs I'm getting in
the system log:

Jul 24 14:28:04 powermac7300 ctl_cyrusdb[12170]: checkpointing cyrus
databases
Jul 24 14:28:04 powermac7300 ctl_cyrusdb[12170]: DBERROR: archive
/var/imap/db: cyrusdb error
Jul 24 14:28:04 powermac7300 ctl_cyrusdb[12170]: DBERROR: error
archiving log file: /var/imap/db/log.0000000001
Jul 24 14:28:04 powermac7300 ctl_cyrusdb[12170]: DBERROR: archive
/var/imap/db: cyrusdb error
Jul 24 14:28:04 powermac7300 ctl_cyrusdb[12170]: done checkpointing
cyrus databases

Should I be concerned about these?

Thanks for all of the help so far -- I'm definitely getting closer!
