Many people use Cyrus IMAPd on RedHat 8.0. I don't know what's wrong
with your installation. The steps are usually so easy:

On a clean RedHat 8.0 system, do:
- Rebuild cyrus imapd rpms.
- Install the binary rpms.
- user 'passwd cyrus' to set a cyrus admin password
- start saslauthd with 'service saslauthd start'
- start cyrus imapd with 'service cyrus-imapd start'
- start managing accounts with 'cyradm --user=cyrus --auth=login
localhost'
