Misunderstanding of MUPDATE ?

The whole murder is only accessable throughy frontends.  If, for some
reason, a user connected to a backend that didn't have the mailbox they
wanted on it, they couldn't access it.

I'm not sure I follow this question.

Only frontends proxy.  Only backends serve data.  There is no replication
of the mailbox data.
