Hello Eric.

Thanks so much for the continued support of Alice 2.x

When launching the new 2.5.4 version, I am prompted to install DirectPlay. A brief read on DirectPlay from Wikipedia has me concerned about its "deprecated" nature and the network connections it wants to make. Is it needed?

Thanks for your time,
Chris

Subject: alice-teacher New Alice 2 and Alice 3 Versions

Dear All,

I wanted to let everyone know that we have released a new version of both Alice 2 and Alice 3. Most critically the new Alice 2 version resolves our High Sierra problem allowing Alice 2 to function properly on the news Mac OS. There are general performance and stability improvements for both version as well as some bug fixes that we think will make a lot of you and your students work a lot easier such as fixing the issue where shape objects were constantly reseting when you ran your program in Alice 3. Please keep telling us what you need and the problems you are finding so we can continue to make the systems better. Thank you all again for all of your support and patience.

Sincerely,

Eric

We are getting reports from some users of issues in the download and installation of Alice 2.5 and Windows 10. We would appreciate any information and insights people may have if they are experiencing these difficulties as we are unable to duplicate them.

Thank you,
Don Slater

Eric/Don,

I have update all PC's (Windows 10 - fully updated) to the new versions of
2 and 3. I'm am only experiencing issues with 2 on the initial program load
- weird quirk with the lower right-hand corner of the window, to adjust the size (I sent this one in already), experiencing an occasional hang on the refresh of the screen after re-sizing. (see attached) and some computers asking to install DirectPlay. If I choose to install it, Alice works fine, If I choose not to install, Alice works just fine as well. If I do not install, it does not ask again on the next restart. It only asked me to install DirectPlay on 3 or 4 computers, I updated 20. We have used both in class for three days now, and have not experienced any other issues. I had the students open programs previously created and run them to test both versions, no one has reported any other issues.
