Dean,
I'm finishing that whole process now. I should have an iso image to share soon. My goal is to finish everything tomorrow. Thanks for your interest. I'll let you know as soon as it is ready.

Did you share, if so, would you mind sharing with me?

I used Linux Mint 17.1 and installed the Chromium browser, Java, and Eclipse. On Monday I will install Alice. Then, I will make an image of that disk (with all the updates) and share that iso online. That should save people a lot of time - just install this and be ready to go.

Dean - I installed Linux on the Chromebook this week according to the link that was shared. That installation went well and Linux is working fine, so I'm thinking getting Alice running should work from there. The Alice programs are not installed yet as I'm just getting started working on that. I could use some help with the Linux commands to setup Java and then get Alice 2 and 3 working. Any Linux users out there able to help with this?

Thanks for the suggestion, when you try this workaround, can you please tell me if it works?

I am having the same issue - i agree that Alice is the best tool for this, and am trying a work-around for Chromebooks.

You can run Linux on a Chromebbok with tools like Crouton -

- and then should be able to run Alice 2 or 3 from there. My high school also just issued Chromebooks to every student. Fortunately, the computer labs are still PCs and MACs, so we are OK in school. To be honest, I haven't tried this yet, but have spoken to several who have, and plan to try this solution this week.

Hi:

Many of the schools I work with have or about to purchase Google Chrome Books . For those of us who work in higher education and work with PK-12 schools, there has been a dramatic shift in hardware to Chrome Books.

Does anyone know a work around to get Alice downloaded on Chrome Books? I spoke to a couple of my contacts at Google and they say I should use their products found in Coding with Chrome which is fine, but I think Alice is the best program to get teachers and students interested in programming.
