Hi,

I have been using Alice for a number of years now and would like to use the new resources available for Alice 3.1 on the updated website. By the way, the website and materials are very well done! Thank you!

I was able to download the lessons and exercises, but only in .pdf format. In the guide it states that you can download the material in .doc format in order to combine the material. Also, it says you can download the videos. Can someone please help me do this?

Thank you,

Jennifer McLean

Subject: alice-teacher Alice Newsletter and Release Updates

Dear All,

I wanted to send out a quick notification of the new Alice 3 releaser and a quick newsletter to share some of the things we are working on over here.

1. Alice 3.3.1 has been released - This is a minor release mostly in support of a new autosave functionality and the release of several new languages. Special thanks to Oracle Academy and their network for their tremendous translation contributions. Read more about it in the following blog post or the bullet point list in the release notes on the download page:

http://www.alice.org/alice-version-3-1-released/

2. Alice 2 release coming soon - It has been a while and this build should have a bunch of bug fixes that many of you have been asking for. We had wanted to release them both simultaneously but the Alice 2 build is still in the process of final testing though we hope to be promoting it soon.

2. New Audio Library and How Tos - We are wrapping up our summer internships over here and wanted to share a special thanks to our graduate students Jiaxin and Julian. Keep watch for an announcement of the release of some great new artwork, audio library tracks, and audio How To content very soon.

3. Importing Objects - We have been working on an import object pipeline for Alice 3 that we hope to bring to beta this fall. Watch out for that release and for those interested a call for instructors willing to help us test that functionality.

4. AP CS Principles - I wanted to remind everyone that we have a second list-serve set up just for CS Principles teachers using Alice that I hope you all will use to share your work and ideas and ask for support.

I will post more on this in an upcoming thread but wanted to share out that Art Lopez has a course based on Beth Simon’s work and they are both happy to share and give access to a wealth of materials to anyone interested. You can contact Art at mr.arturo.lopez at gmail.com. The available materials include an audited college board syllabus, a course planning and pacing guide, a google drive folder packed full of materials to support the course including instructor notes, presentations, Beth’s curriculum cartridge associated with her book and Art’s current canvas course.

Wishing everyone a wonderful start to the new school year and more to come soon.

Sincerely,

Eric
