alice-teacher Alice 2 & Robotics

I will be teaching Alice 2 for the first time at our school in the Fall.
Our principal would like our students to build a robot and perhaps enter a
Robotics competition. In your opinion, do you think Alice 2 would lead up
to that as a half year course?
Would students gain enough knowledge from Alice 2 to create a robot, or is
Alice 3, or another programming course necessary for that?
