Although Emily sent this to me directly, I thought it might be helpful to others..as well as stimulate ideas of others, so I'm send this to the whole list.

I use the book mentioned on this site: Learning to Program with Alice.
Go to Alice.org for more info.

Make sure you download the version Alice you want...I teach at a private school and don't follow Common Core, so I'm not sure about the new version of Alice with Core.

Look at the pull down menu Teaching. You can download all sorts of lessons And and if you go to:
http://www.aliceprogramming.net/materials.html you can get syllabi and tests, etc.
And check out this site for more syllabi by grade level: http://www.aliceprogramming.net/otherschools.html
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions of what works and doesn't work, let me know.
Laurie

 Laurie,
I am also new to teaching computer programming and am using Alice 2.x. The teacher that used to teach it retired and left me some resources but I'd love others. You mentioned being able to point in the right direction of additional Alice 2 resources, would love any help there.

Thanks,

I don't have a curriculum for Alice 3 (maybe others on this list will be able to help you). But there is LOTS of curriculum out there for Alice 2.x such as textbooks, powerpoints, program suggestions, lessons, and even quizzes and tests. However, Alice 2. is an entirely different program. It is not an older version of Alice than Alice 3. I have only used Alice 2.x and have been very happy with it...If you choose to switch your plans I could certainly lead you to many places to get you up and running very quickly.

Hello all:

I have jumped into the deep end. I am a new teacher, transitioning from a job in the corporate world.

I am about to start teaching math and computer science. I was just hired about a week and a half ago.

Classes start tomorrow, and I don’t have a curriculum for the Intro to CS course I am teaching.

I am planning to use ALICE3 and the “Learning Java Through ALICE 3 text book”.

The purpose of the class is to introduce students to programming and Java, with the hopes they will go on to the AP Java class next year.

I am thinking it would be helpful if I had a curriculum to start with. One written specifically for ALICE3 would be best but almost anything would be better than “what I don’t have” at this point.

Can anyone assist?

Thank you………………..Joe G
