alice-teacher Problems with Scene Setup in ALICE 3

My students have found that with ALICE 3.1.92.0.0, in the "room" scene, after we add a character, we cannot click the character to select it directly (we have to click it in the object tree) and we cannot turn it by using the yellow "doughnut ring" that appears and is normally used to turn characters.  



Anyone else experiencing this problem?

We are using HP touch screens, running Windows 8.1 pro.
