alice-teacher s Digest, Vol 34, Issue 17

Hello Susan,
I am not aware of any existing fix toward making Alice accessible to legally blind students. Actually, I am not aware of any similar application (e.g. Scratch, App Inventor) that works with AT for legally blind.
There are applications without a graphical interface that were developed from scratch to be fully accessible (e.g. Quorum ) but, again, all the amazing features provided by Alice graphical interface that help so much kids falling in love with programming are GONE!
As I was saying, I was able to successfully use Alice only with students that have low vision and many other type of disabilities.
I hope this helps,
Daniela

However, if the students are legally blind, which was my case, Braille readers, etc. cannot read the animations and have a very hard time reading the code in the editing window. In this case, the software is not a good fit because the student needs to see the animation.

They want to learn how to program, but can't take my classes because I use Alice which doesn't support supportive devices.
