Hi Kate,

Don usually answers questions such as this one, but he is off campus today and I want to be
sure you get a prompt answer so you can help your students.

We have had several reports of problems with the Export Video in Alice 2.x

The problem seems to be related to the use of sound files of various formats
in the students' worlds. One way to address this issue is to use Audacity to
shorten the sound files to the exact length of sound being played. For example,
if 10 seconds of a 2 minute sound file is being played in the Alice world, then
use Audacity to create a 10 second sound clip and save it out as a .wav file.
Then, remove the 2 minute sound file from the Alice world and use the 10 second
clip instead. (Alice works best with .wav files.)

An alternate solution is to use Jing (a free video capture utility from TechSmith).
It can be downloaded from:

http://www.techsmith.com/download/jing/default.asp

To use Jing, first connect a USB microphone to your computer and make sure it is on.
Next start Jing. In Jing, click the capture video button and wait 2 seconds before clicking Play
in Alice The reason for the 2 second wait is that Jing has a 3 second delay before
starting to record. By waiting 2 seconds, you give Alice 1 second to start playing the world.

Hope that helps,
Wanda
