I thought that programming in Alice was "electronic game time"!! Silly me.

If I did this as a class assignment, I'm sure my students would do it as they do all of their assignments. But I'm asking them to do the work over Christmas break and outside of class. So for the boys, this competition is competing with electronic game time... a reality in our country.

Well said Ms. Wilder!
It’s still a mystery to me why students should somehow be compensated for doing their job well. Isn’t a student’s duty to perform well in class?

What happened to kids being motivated by a sense of accomplishment for a job well done...It is disappointing that as role models we feel compelled to enable and encourage a sense of something is only worth doing if you have a tangible reward...

I know my kids would be MUCH more likely to win if they get prizes. A $50 MasterCard gift card would be a HUGE motivator for them.

Hi Don,

Our competitions do not have prizes at this time, though winning entries will be displayed and archived as the prime example for the competition (examples: http://www.cs2n.org/competitions).
