It looks like no one has mentioned this: Apparently this is undocumented -- I had to e-mail this list to find out. Recording in Alice does not work on Macs. If you're using a Mac, download a free program such as Audicity to record sounds, then import them. I'm hoping that this function works as it should in Alice 3!
