alice-teacher Problems with billboards in the Mac

A lot of my students are having problems dropping in images in 
the Mac for billboards or to use for texture mapping. The images appear
as just black. Sometimes they can convert the image to another format
and that works. Is there a format that works better than others for the
Mac? Is this a known bug on your list?
