Hi all,

Based on the proposal this is more to do with selective network traffic acceleration at the edge for a concept called Distributed NFV. The applications stated are for Ethernet over Optical and project looking for use cases that help build D-NFV. So one can think of this as connected isolated NFV PoPs, may be somewhat similar to Segmentation use case in ONOS as I recollect.

Refer Scope:
This is a requirements project, therefore it is proposed to develop use cases, requirements, as well as upstream project blue prints and associated test cases.

Now please let me know if we want to leverage this to get a BP in OpenStack for our needs and add our use case to this. If so can some of you in MEC or OEC team draw an architectural difference between D-NFV, OEC/MEC & OPNFV(ETSI NFV Reference Architecture) for Infrastructure to say, if our use case applies to this.

Certainly there is a low latency element but that bringing UP closer to CP or more to do more with DP acceleration for selective traffic through edge: WAN Acceleration, Content Caching, Firewalling?

If everyone agrees, we can add one of our user applications like Glasses etc to it, but otherwise it appears to be more in Infrastructure MEF LSO like play.

We can discuss this in our meetings.

Thanks

Subject: [oe-sync] Edge NFV project proposal approved in OPNFV - relevance?

Hi there,

As a project proposal called Edge NFV has been approved in OPNFV on 18 August (a few days ago), can I ask whether anyone knows more about this and what the implications might be.

URL to the meeting minutes form OPNFV, 18 Aug: https://wiki.opnfv.org/wiki/tsc Copied from there:
Project creation review:
Edge NFV: James outlines that the project intends to enable the utilization of edge compute capability in the OPNFV infrastructure, and the focus of EdgeNFV project is on the compute node. James has also been in communications with the LSO team and does not foresee conflicts between EdgeNFV & LSO projects. The project creation was approved via the IRC vote.

Chris Donley / TBD - c.donley at cablelabs.com
Prayson Pate - Prayson.Pate at overturenetworks.com

OpenStack is one of the upstream communities they target.
At least, the proposal reveals that certain companies do have an interesting in readying OpenStack, Open Daylight, OVS for edge computing.
