Thank you so very much for the feedback. It was most helpful. Based on the age and maturity of my students (mostly freshmen and sophomores in an alternative school setting), I think the 2.x version would be the best starting point. Plus there is a wealth of materials to get me up to speed since my most recent programming experiences were in APL,COBOL, RPG3, and Fortran in the late 1970's.
