Call for Papers

Concurrent and distributed computer architectures, based on 
multi/many-core or distributed computer units, have become a standard de 
facto in computer systems. Today, these architectures take a role at any 
scale, from high-end servers to personal and mobile devices, and they 
underlie various recent computing paradigms, like Cloud, Edge, and Fog 
Computing.

The continuously-growing level of hardware parallelism and heterogeneity 
has led concurrent and distributed systems to be even more complex to 
optimize, in particular in terms of energy efficiency and performance, 
which are known to be highly interrelated. Nonetheless, these aspects 
are of paramount importance, especially because of the high demand for 
electricity by the IT sector. This facet is further exacerbated by the 
recent energy crisis and rising energy prices.

Various aspects of concurrent and/or distributed systems that make them 
complex (like the complexity of the underlying architectures, data 
dependencies, the use of shared resources, the hardware heterogeneity) 
can also offer new opportunities for designing novel methods and 
techniques for their energy and performance optimization.

PECS aims to establish a venue for both academia and industry to discuss 
challenges and perspectives and to explore methods, techniques, and 
tools for energy efficiency and performance optimization in concurrent 
and distributed systems.

High-quality research papers are solicited on all aspects related to 
energy efficiency and performance of concurrent and/or distributed 
computer systems, focusing on the following topics (but not limited to):

- Multi/many-core systems
- Heterogeneous computing architectures
- Cloud, IoT, Edge and Fog Computing
- Parallel, concurrent and distributed programming frameworks
- High-Performance Computing
- (Big) Data processing
- Machine learning methods and applications
- Data management and services
- Simulation systems
- Operating Systems
- Virtualization
- Security

Paper Submission

All papers must be submitted using the EasyChair submission system. 
Submitted papers should present novel contributions and should not have 
been submitted for publication elsewhere. Submitted papers must be 
prepared using the Springer LNCS style. It is required to use one of the 
Springer LNCS Proceedings template files. Papers must be written in 
English with a minimum length of 10 pages and a maximum length of 12 
pages, including text, references, appendices, and figures. Due to the 
double-blind peer review, all information that may allow the 
identification of the authors must be removed from the submitted paper, 
like authors’ names and affiliations, acknowledgments, funding 
information, and all references to the authors’ work that may disclose 
their identity. This information can be later added to accepted papers.

Paper Reviewing

Submitted papers will undergo a double-blind review process, i.e. the 
identity of authors and referees will not be revealed to each other.

Paper Publication

Only the accepted papers presented at the workshop will be published in 
the final proceedings by Springer in the LNCS series.

Venue

PECS 2023 will take place in St. Raphael Resort on August 28/29, 2023 in 
Limassol, Cyprus. The workshop is co-located with the 29th International 
European Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing (Euro-Par 2023).
