In the Middle, New Year has become an excuse for silly pantomime-- acting drunk, pretending to keep turning because one is confused-- etc. That is why it is popular.

has two New Yer recordings and a PDF with steps and all. Also has
other Gresley recordings and booklets.
I thought New Year was pretty boring, so I'm a bit surprised that
people like it.
