Greetings Good Gentles!  Come join in the merriment at A Day of Story and Song: Performing Arts in the Castle this Saturday, March 7th.  Many skilled teachers of the Bardic Arts are traveling to present classes as well as perform. There will be sign-up sheets at Troll for classes since some have size limits. Some gentles are coming to drink delicious beverages from the Brewers' Roundtable and others are coming just to listen, watch and learn - no performing necessary!  This is also a last minute reminder for lunch and Feast reservations.  If you post your check today, Lord Owen will receive it in time ( Owen Taeger, 117 Dauntless Dr, Penn Hills PA 15235).  Otherwise, lunch can be purchased at the door for $5 per person.  There are a few unclaimed Feast seats at this time at $14 per person with any remaining Feast seats available for purchase at the door.

We hope to see all who enjoy good entertainment, food, and drink this coming Saturday at the Castle!

The Next BMDL Fiber Guild meeting is on Tuesday,   March 10 at Songbird Artistry, 4316 Penn Ave., Lawrenceville, at 7:00 PM

This month the topic is traditional Eastern Slavic  textile motifs! I will be talking about the traditional embroidery and weaving motifs, their origins, meaning, and evolution, and will show some traditional Ukrainian embroidery examples.  

All are welcome to attend, and bring your own projects to work on. Tea and baked goods are happening, please let me know if you have any dietary restrictions

Hello Debatable Landers :)

With Allegheny County's new social distancing measures announced tonight,
we know that the pandemic situation feels more real and more scary to a lot
of you. And a lot of you already were at that point before tonight, too...
A lot of things in our real lives are changing rapidly and in ways that are
unprecedented in our lifetimes. There will be hardships and heartbreaks.
But we have each other.

Our special, amazing hobby is only one community, one family. Reach out to

For more information, here's some text from KDKA:

I believe the "South Tower" is the one that contains the master bedroom,

We're doing fine!


Saw an interesting and important note today:  When receiving deliveries (especially restaurant takeout or delivery), move items to your own plates/containers, throw away the containers they came in and wash your hands afterwards.  Virus can linger on cardboard, plastic, styrophone (i.e. surfaces). So, it's a small measure, but a good habit just in case.

Greetings from Myfanwy!
We?re okay here ? but I?m going a little stir crazy from not being able to go anywhere except to get groceries (and there are only so many online sudokus I can do at any given time).  And we?re not sure whether Alastar?s job will actually start on Monday (other than to do paperwork); they originally wanted him to start on the 16th or the 23rd but he ask for that to be pushed back because of Gulf Wars, only of course we all now how that worked out. :-(  Then he was able to push it back up to the 23rd (since he wasn?t at Gulf Wars) only then the Governor closed all businesses that didn?t involve ?life sustaining? (and had already asked for all non-elective surgeries to be postponed; which probably includes robotic knee replacements?. Which is what the new job will involve).
I do have books to read, and I?ve also been looking at ink samples to order (assuming the place in Little Rock is still open to do shipping at the moment).  But Alastar?s birthday present make get broken out early (the complete boxed sets of all seasons of Babylon 5, plus the spinoff movies, plus a DVD of behind the scenes stuff) when we run out of stuff on the DVR that we haven?t already watched, plus some of the movies I recorded for posterity so I don?t have to spend months searching for a channel playing them?).

working on ways to help people keep track of all the online activities that
have been popping up due to current events.

Starting today, you can submit Online Activities to the Kingdom Calendar,
if you wish. This has its own submission form, which can be found on the
Kingdom Website below the Events Menu-->List of Online Activities-->Online
Activity Submission Form. (The direct link to this form is
http://ae.scaforms.org/view.php?id=53679 )

At the current time, the first 7 online activities will be listed on the
main page of the website, under the section of Royal Progress Events and
above the section of Kingdom Events. At the bottom of this section, there
is a link to a page listing all Online Activities. Additionally, this page
can be accessed from the Events Menu-->List of Online Activities. (The
direct link to this page is

As we are not able to completely separate Online Activities from the
Kingdom Events Calendar, all Online Activities will be prefaced with

Strange times call for novel solutions. With that in mind, Gabrielle and I
have started making the arrangements to live stream a court. On 3/28 at
1pm, we will begin to stream.

As you can imagine this plan is really just coming together. With the
exception of the remaining peerage elevations, the rest of our docket will
be cleared. This includes, amongst other things, our Jewel, a Fleur, a
Millrind, and a pair of Gages.

Unless someone comes up with a better idea, we will be publishing the
docket in advance, so the recipients know to watch the stream.

We will save our peerage elevations to be done in regency court once things
settle back down.

THL Sumayya and I will be holding Zoom Room practice on Thursday and Friday
nights from 6-10 PM and Saturday morning from 9-11 AM in preparation for
Saturday?s Virtual Court.

Please know that this link will not allow entry when there is no host in
the room.

You can download the Zoom Meetings app for Android or Apple (both are
free). On a computer you will need to install the download  that happens
when you try joining a room for the first time. *You do NOT need to create

Greetings from Myfanwy!
I need to be rescued from stupid people on the Internet.  (By which I mean ?willfully ignorant?).  And the occasional person who can?t follow basic instructions (like someone from a doctor?s office calling Alastar back on the house line instead of his cellphone, and ALSO apparently on speaker at that because half the message was too quiet to be understandable ? being the ?call us back at this number? part?. [insert facepalm .gif here].  But otherwise things are okay.

Online Sewing Circle - Thursday April 2

Let's see if we can make sewing circle work online. Sewing is scheduled for Thursday April 2nd. Even if we don't meet in person, we can meet online. In fact, this may work better for many folks that cannot normally make it in person. I am continuing the Japanese garment topic that I started last month. I am creating online instructions for the making men's hakama, or pants, and kataginu, or vest. I have also requested a kingdom online room. When I have published the instructions and receive details about how to connect to the online room, I will publish those links to the blog. During the online sewing circle, I will go over the instructions if folks want or just answer questions if that is needed. My plan is to cover kosode constructions short or long next time if I don't get instructions ready for that this time. If you have questions, you can email sewing at debatablelands dot org, or you can find my email address in the dark pages if you look up Hara Kikumatsu.
