Everyone:

As a reminder, tonight I am having online sewing circle using one of the 
kingdom zoom rooms. I will be continuing with the topic from last sewing 
circle regarding making Japanese garb. There was a bunch of interest in 
men's hakama and kataginu. I've put together a presentation with 
pictures of the outfit, fabric suggestions and links, and how to 
instructions for (mostly) machine sewing the garment. I will review this 
material and answer questions assuming there are folks that want to 
review this. My plan for next sewing circle will be to do the same sort 
of presentation for short or long kosode. If you have questions email

Although we won?t be gathering together as planned, it is our hope that we
may still come together to celebrate the spirit of the occasion, our

other event day: pull out your feast gear, set the table, hang your
banners, put on your best garb, and enjoy the company of your friends and
family.

These are challenging times, but together we are strong. Schedule/join an

challenging time of an invisible foe. We will be sitting in state on Zoom

Greetings from Myfanwy!
Well, Alastar?s birthday was the same day as the ?thereal Coronation.  
We have daffodils and squill blooming in the yard, (although the crocuses seem to be mostly gone) and of course the hellebores have been in bloom for ages (at least a month) and the ?Elizabeth' magnolia has some blossoms (although not as many as in past years) and the one that I THOUGHT was a ?Jane? isn?t because it?s got yellow flowers, so I have no idea what it is at this point, and long since got rid of the Great Plant Auction catalog from the year I got it (a year after winning the bidding on the ?Elizabeth?.
Plus I?m nearly a week in to this year?s NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) and today?s prompt goes sort of medieval!  (Write a poem from the point of view from one of the people/animals/things in the Hieronymus Bosch painting ?The Garden of Earthly Delights? ? which I actually got to see years ago on a trip to Spain (it?s in the Prado in Madrid).

We?re both still doing okay.  Alastar is able to work from home at least some (although he still hasn?t been able to get all the software he needs installed).  I?ve been doing a lot of writing ? it?s NaPoWriMo 2020, and I?ve already gotten 15 poems under my belt, and some are actually even pretty good, IMO! :-)  Been doing a little online retail therapy; oh eBay is a dangerous place when you?re stuck at home... did I *really* need a keyring where the fob was a mini ?classic? Colorforms set?  (Uhh? yes?). And I?ve got a pen coming in the mail ? I gamed the system somewhat and waited for the last few seconds and then bid the minimum (there was nobody else watching the listing for some reason); it was more expensive than some other listings, and the shipping is higher (and eBay is now collecting PA sales tax, even though the seller is in NJ?) but it?s what I wanted over some of the other listings, and still cheaper than the one I got outbid on last week and by ?outbid" I mean ?outbid by a LOT, and way more than it should have gone for?.?  And the shipping was higher because it?s being sent Priority Mail, and has already cleared the Philly distribution center :-)
Watching a lot of movies that we recorded over the past few days.  I may even make him sit through The Wizard of Oz, with all its cheesy Technicolor glory (and a plot somewhat different from the book?).  The other night it was The Lady from Shanghai which is, um, odd (not the least of which in that Orson Welles does this weird-ass Irish accent).

The Shakespeare Giant Eagle is not providing its employees with PPE or 
instructions for wearing PPE properly. I may stop going there.

Most things are back at full stock, even eggs and meat products, so 
don't buy more than you normally would.

The situation in the Freehold of the North Hills remains stable. Our northern neighbors seem content to remain in their own strongholds and not attempt to use this time of sickness to expand their borders. We remain vigilant however, with regular ranges through the Park and weekly foraging missions. At the same time, we strengthen our own holding and continue to improve our lands; often more in the desire to be out of doors than for any pressing need.?
All in all we remain strong and pray that the others to the South continue to flourish.

The past month has seen significant change in the COVID-19 threat and
risk overlay for Pennsic 49. The cancellation of major events
throughout the modern world such as, The Olympic Games (July 2020) in
Japan, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (July/Aug 2020) in Scotland
and Major Events Across the USA, plus the restriction of travel both
Nationally and Internationally, have indicated to me that this world
wide pandemic is having an ongoing longer effect on the planning and
running of Pennsic 49 in July/August 2020 than could have been
foreseen. In addition, last week has seen the cancellation of May War
Practice and the closure of all schools in PA for the rest of the
school year.

Cognisant of these changes I have asked Viscount Edward to liaise with
the Coopers Lake Management and identify a final notification date for
the continuance of Pennsic 49 in 2020.

This is not to be viewed as a postponement of the event; it simply
allows me to have a ?timeline? for decision making and allows me to
further consider the impact of events on my recommendations to the
Pennsic Seneschals Group (PSG).

It is therefore incumbent upon me to plan for as many possible
outcomes as I can foresee. To that end I have requested that the PSG
have a Virtual meeting, on a mutually suitable date between 20-25
April 2020. At that meeting discussions will be held regarding several
impacting factors for Pennsic 49 in 2020.

My primary concern will be to ensure the safety of the Pennsic War
Attendee?s, the Coopers Lake Community and Staff as well as the impact
on businesses in and around Coopers Lake Campground area.

We need to also consider the recovery period for businesses in the
local area that would normally supply Pennsic with part of our
infrastructure for the event to run safely and effectively. This
includes but is not limited to everything from the contracted EMS
Service to Tents and Golf carts.

I have been in discussions with James Brezel from the Coopers Lake
Management Group over the past weeks to ascertain their position as no
matter which way we go, it will have a great financial impact on their
business.  I cannot comment on things that Coopers Lake Campground
supplies from Porta-John?s to Coopers Casual Staff and the Pennsic
Store, I will leave that to James and the Coopers Lake Management to
evaluate as they know that side well and what effects COVID-19 has had
on the supply chain to them.

All the above needs to be considered and discussed before any final
decision/s are made. That decision does not include the overarching
authority by Local, County, State or Federal agencies that would
override any decision made by either ourselves or Coopers Lake
Management and which is beyond our control.

I am looking at allot and taking into account all options and
considerations not only for the people who attend Pennsic every year,
but also for the Coopers Management and Staff. In addition, we need to
consider the impact and opinions of the local people and businesses,
in and around Pennsic. I especially need to look at if the local
businesses can still supply or are in a position to supply the
attendees to Pennsic 49.

On top of this we need to consider the impact on the local community
of 8-10,000 turning up from all over the USA and internationally and
what the health effect that may have both physically and reputation
wise to the SCA, Pennsic and the Coopers Lake Camp Ground.

Add to that the constant changing figures in the USA, shutdown of
state boarders, local, county, state and federal changes in the
movement of people and last but not least the projected recovery time,
even if this bottoms out by the end of June. This is a juggling game
where we cannot afford to drop a ball. So, I am being measured,
careful, factual and logical in our approach.

Be assured, we are all working towards the best possible solution. It
is my desire to have a final decision advertised no later than 15 May
2020. This will allow people to change plans if necessary and/or
prepare for a Pennsic that might be very different to that we have
attended before.

As you are all no doubt aware by now? I like to Plan for the Known and
Prepare for the Unknown. I have a fantastic staff and great support
from the PSG and Coopers Lake Management.

I will keep you all advised on the outcome of our discussions and planning.

Per the Aestel, just in case you were unsure - May Crown tourney has
been officially postponed/cancelled.

Their Majesties announced this via their Court at Coronation. They
also will let everyone know as soon as we can when it will be held.
They indicated that they would give as much notice as possible, so
that combatants could get in their letters.

As Kingdom Seneschal, I have gotten a variance from the Society
Seneschal for this postponement/cancellation. More information TBD. As
soon as I know, I will let you all know. Girl Scout's Honor.

We have also made the decision to postpone Courts until that not so distant

Greetings from Myfanwy!
Not too much SCA stuff at the moment (other than ?attending? the ?thereal Coronation).  But Alastar has been working, and I?ve been writing a lot of poetry (I?m up 5 poems on this year?s NaPoWriMo, with a little under 2 weeks to go).
Gonna spend this afternoon attempting to sew masks (about to go digging through the fabric stash ? fortunately it looks as if I have at least a couple of yards of narrow elastic.  But I may also just try doing the ?folded t-shirt? style to start with (we picked up some larger ? and hopefully more comfortable ? hair bands at Target the other day).
I have been listening to the music links that Mistress Arianna has been posting (although I haven?t have time to listen to the full Machaut Mass yet).  
I have also pulled out the modern translation of an Italian Renaissance romantic epic, Orlando Innamorato, by Matteo Maria Boiardo (but am still reading the front matter?).  It?s the same style of poetry later used by Edmund Spenser for The Fairie Queen;  if I can make it through Boiardo (and then can track down a translation of the later Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto), I may actually take another stab at Spenser (although, when I had to read Book 1 for an English lit class in college I wanted to stab my eyes with blunt needles ? and the 75? drafts and good burgers at a pub off campus ? was the *only* thing that got me through even that much.  As in ?Hey Ed ? you dedicated this crap to Elizabeth the First so you could get home from Ireland?  And it didn?t work?  Betting I?m guessing she was as bored by it as I was?.? LoL
Alastar has been working from home but also playing around with making bread, and coming up with basically ?packages? (like the jars of ?all you need to add to this cookie recipe is the liquid?) to hand out to people once he?s got the basics worked out.

Report from the Northern Border
Your Excellencies,
It is with pride that I must report we have successfully held the northern bastions from an invasion of small grey rodents. Their repeated raids against our elevated grain stores dismayed us in the Freehold; but with the rugged determination usually expected in the highland peoples, we met the foe on a field of our choosing. Having applied some careful craftsmanship and the use of subterfuge, we can now report that the supplies of birdseed meant for your avian subjects has been secured. Said subjects are again safe against starvation in these difficult times. Thus the rangers of the Freehold are able to return to their usual patrols of the highlands and the North Hills.
Life as it is has returned to the new normal and we prepare our fields for the spring planting. Hopefully this harvest we will enjoy the fruits of our labors and continue to thrive. As always, we pray for the health and souls of our southern neighbors and wish those lands prosperity and happiness.

As we saw, Her Majesty reminded us that this weekend should have been
filled with pageantry and honor at the 47th Crown Tourney of ?thelmearc.
Crown Tourneys are truly one of MY favorite events, as I?m sure it is for
many of you. In her desire to keep the dream alive, Our Queen is asking us
to share and tag our favorite pictures of tournaments (past and present) of
ourselves and others or share stories/videos, using the hashtag #AECrown

In addition to this, I am collecting pictures to feature during this
weekend?s ?Live event! What i am looking for are pictures of THEN & NOW -
Crown/Coronet Version. It could be a picture of the first time you
processed in Crown/Coronet Tourney and then a recent picture of you doing
the same. A picture of the first Crown/Coronet you attended as a spectator
and then a recent picture of you enjoying the same. It could even be a
picture of you with the first King and Queen you met (or Prince and
Princess).

I am collecting these pictures up until Friday, 5/1, until 8pm. I ask you
to please e-mail these pictures to *AEliveentertainment at aethelmearc.org
<AEliveentertainment at aethelmearc.org>*. I will collect as many of these
pictures as I can and create a slide show that will be featured at some
point during ?Live on Saturday, May 2 at 6pm.

**When sending in the pictures, please try to give me an idea of when the
pictures were. I will try my best to label them.**

I am excited to see the differences that have happened over the years and I
hope many of you will take part in this endeavor.
