Oh, they’ve come from a land, from a faraway place, where the caravan
camels roam to bring you an event like no other. This is no ordinary event!
It once changed the course of a young woman’s life. A young woman who,
like this event, was more than what she seemed – a diamond in the
rough. Perhaps
you would like to hear the tale? Then come on down, stop on by, hop a
carpet and fly to another Arabian Night!

* *

Sultan Shahryar and Sultana Scheherazade are traveling the caravan routes
to the Shire of Gryffyn’s Keep to celebrate the 1002 day of their union on
October 19th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Rain or Shine!

In honor of our exalted guests, there will be much in the way of activities
to entertain.

~ *Story-telling Competition* ~

Since the beloved Sultana has talked her way into the heart of the Sultan
for 1001 days, she is very tired. The Sultan has kindly opened the floor to
hear tales from others to entertain his lady. The Sultan desires to hear
tales that fit one of the following categories:

 1. Any tale from Alf Laila wa Laila* (interpretation or adaptation allowed)

 2. A tale in the style of Alf Laila wa Laila* (an original work)

 3. A tale in a period style.

* *A Thousand Nights and a Night*

Tales that exceed three turns of the Sultan’s Glass (9 minutes total) may
be penalized for inflicting harm on the Sultan's diwan and will be dealt
with according to custom. Judging will be arbitrary, perhaps swayed by the
response of those near to the Sultan. Bribes are beneath the Sultan but
gifts may be considered.

~ *Fencing* ~

Come join the fight against the Saracens and help your fellow Infidels
escape prison in a fencing tournament of Epic Proportions!

I hear questions from my audience: "I want to help! What can I do?"

Well it's very easy. You can join the Infidels and attempt to escape from
prison or.... you can be a Saracen and attempt to keep the Infidels where
they belong!"

~ *Heavy Fighting* ~

A round robin tournament will be fought to honor the Sultan and Sultana
with the winner being gifted with a Magic Lamp!

~*The Quest* ~

We have heard from afar that the password to the Forty Thieves’ Cave has
been changed. A five-part quest has been ordered for groups of no more than
three that are willing to pursue the clues on their way to glory and riches!

~ *Cooking Competition* ~

Enter your favorite dish in the period Cooking Competition for newbies,
novices, and experienced cooks alike! Entries will be judged by populace
vote.

~ *Food, Food, and More Food*: ~

To keep everyone’s strength up, there will be a potluck sideboard (a meat
will be provided).

The day will culminate in a lavish Middle Eastern feast.

There will also be an Oriental Auction to benefit the Shire’s Iron Key Fund.

Dancers and musicians are more than welcome.

Children will not be left out and may participate in most of the activities
as well.
