[SCA-BMDL] OT: manual letterpress printing?

Is anyone familiar with this process?  I have a mundane friend asking me if I or any of you fine folk have knowledge of this sort of thing.  I have no idea what it is or how to do it, etc.  All replies will be met with great gratitude.
