Barony Twelfth Night Celebration
At The Lodge at North Park
on January 30, 2010

The Twelfth Night Celebration for the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands is fast approaching! Many hands are working together to make this Twelfth Night full of fun and merriment. Here are the details:

Location: The Lodge at North Park, (no street number) Pearce Mill Road, Allison Park, PA 15101
When: on Saturday, January 30, 2010, the site will open at 10 AM and close at 9 PM or later, so that all may have enough time to enjoy the day.

Remember that this is a FREE event -- everyone is invited, there is no charge at the door and no non-member surcharge! No reservations are required.

Because this is also a Potluck, each person is requested to bring a dish to share. There will be nibbling and noshing all day long. Worried that someone else might be bringing the same thing you are? Not a problem: go to http://www.luckypotluck.com/potluck/BMDLTwelfnight and check the list of dishes to see who is bringing what, and then list your own dish. If you have any questions, please contact Odriana vander Brugghe (jenn.strobel at gmail.com).

When you arrive, be sure to stop at the Troll table. Everyone will need to show a blue card or sign a waiver, and you will want to pick up a program and a token. Also, you may want to select a cookie -- but watch out! The two with the secret marks on the bottom mean that you have been chosen as the King or Queen of Misrule!

For the fighters in the Barony (and beyond), Lord Gabriel Hawke will be organizing a Two-Hour Bear Pit, with weapons and armor inspection at 11 AM. The tourney will start at noon, and run for two hours. There will also be Fun Fighting later in the day for kids young and old!

As this will be a family-and-friends-friendly event, there will be many activities for the younger ones of the Barony. There will be gingerbread cookie decorating, ornament making, and a showing of Basil and Bast, the book-DVD about two cats and the Hundred Years War. Games of all types will be available for any who wish to play.

So enjoyable were the impromptu musical gatherings around the fire at Pennsic this last summer, that all are invited to enjoy a Bardic Circle during the day. Musicians, bring your instruments, singers, bring your lyrics, poets, bring your epics -- everyone else be ready to hum along! After the circle, any and all may participate in the competition for the Baroness’ Bardic Champion, which will be directed by Michael Alewright.

As the weather turns colder, thoughts turn towards not only the holidays, but to the long winter ahead. It is during the winter months that there is a greater emphasis on the arts and sciences as we find projects to keep us near the fire. In the spirit of the beginning of winter and in celebration of the process of making things, there will be a BMDL Twelfth Night A&S Display for projects in all states of completion. There will be space for items that are complete as well as space for items that are in process. The requested documentation is one paragraph describing your contribution to the display. All ages are invited to participate in this display. If you have any questions about the display or you would like to reserve space in advance, please contact Odriana vander Brugghe via email at jenn.strobel at gmail.com or by phone 412.213.8116 (no calls before 9 a.m. or after 9 p.m., please).

Our esteemed Royal Baker, Urho Waltterinen, will preside over a Cookie Baking Competition! For those of you who enjoyed the Debatable Pie Competition, now is your chance to participate as well. Cookie of any and every type are welcome -- bar cookies, rolled cookies, drop cookies, cookies cut and shaped, filled and frosted, and everything else!

Lest you should find that the day be only fun and frivolity, a brief Barony Meeting will be held. Also, Their Royal Majesties will be holding Court, as will our own Baron and Baroness. We are pleased to announce that Court will be preceded by a performance by the members of the Debatable Choir, who have been diligently practicing seasonal favorites for our enjoyment.

Once the business of Court is completed, it is back to the fun and frivolity, thanks to a performance by that world-renowned commedia dell’arte troupe, I Genesii!! This special play reveals the Twelfth Night practices of Venice, and is not for the faint of heart or funny bone.

The Celebration would not be complete without Dancing -- so, there will be dancing! And, there will be live music! The Barony Dancemaster, Cai o’r Llyn, will be compiling a selection of dances that will keep us on our feet into the night.

A complete list and schedule of activities will be in the program that will be available at the door when you arrive, and will be posted on the website as far ahead of time as possible. Complete directions will be sent to the mailing list, posted on the website, and included in the January Althing.

The autocrat for this event is Lady Elss of Augsburg (Rocky Hayeslip), who is grateful to be mentored by Hilda Hugelman. All inquiries may be directed to the autocrat at elss_of_augsburg at yahoo.com or to Rocky Hayeslip, 221 Pine Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 or by cell at 724.759.3333.

In anticipation --
