Unto the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands do Thomas Byron of Haverford
and Ariella of Thornbury send Greetings!
Raiding? Let’s move that idea forward 1000 years….
When comes the time to bring Death to our foes, we shall go side-by-side to
lead the Barony forth to victory. And should they ever dare to cross our
borders, we shall meet them with all manner of weaponry and let them throw
themselves, in vain, upon the Barony’s walls of stone. Spoils of war shall
enrich each and all, and feasting and merriment shall follow each triumph.
We joined the Barony in 1996 and have been enjoying the courtesy and
friendliness of its members since the day we walked into our first Barony
meeting. In 2005, we became squired to Sir Maghnus de Cnoc an Iora. To
avoid conflicting vows of fealty, we would relinquish our squire belts for
as long as we serve as Baron and Baroness, and work to improve the Baronial
Pennsic encampment.
Ariella is currently Baronial Knight Marshall, and has arranged the winter
fighting/fencing sites for the past three years. Our Sundays are filled
with fighting and archery practice, and we have participated in the past
three Crown Tournaments as a combatant couple. Ariella carries the Shield
of Chivalry for her conduct on the Crown list field. Byron has focused his
research on medieval games and strategies, and we have both been involved
with retaining at the Baronial and Royal levels.
We are most interested in ensuring that all members of the Barony are
represented by the Baron and Baroness, and that everyone’s voice is heard.
But we also have some specific ideas to enhance the Barony over the coming
years. For example, we would like to encourage dissemination of the rich
knowledge collected by the gentles in Guilds and other Baronial Groups. As
Baron and Baroness, we would try to attend (or host) meetings for all the
groups in our Barony. This desire is spurred by the intense pleasure we
have received from hosting two Baronial events (and one Dance Guild
practice) in our castle.
We think the strengths we would bring to the Barony are our organizational
abilities, our commitment to long-term endeavors, and our desire to reach
out to all gentles within the Barony. The Barony will surely be well served
by any of the candidates on the ballot, and we look forward to serving the
Barony in whatever capacity we may. Their Excellencies Alonzio and Tatyana,
and their predecessors, have set a very high standard for the Debatable
Lands.
In Service,
Byron and Ariella
