Greetings, all.

"No Officer, at any level of governance of the Society for Creative
Anachronism, Inc., save the President, has the authority to retain (even
pro bono) legal counsel (attorney, barrister, solicitor, et al.) to
represent the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc, without prior
written authorization from the President".

Regarding the proposed change of language above, I have a question: is the
BOD talking about no attorney speaking as the "voice" of the SCA, Inc.? If
so, this is entirely proper.

Or, is the BOD talking about an autocrat being unable to present a lease
agreement for a new event site to Uncle Joe the Attorney, who would look it
over for free and point out any potential difficulties? This would, I
believe, seriously hamper those people who rely on pro bono legal advice
from their local group members. Also, it would further bureaucratize the
SCA. If this is the intended meaning of the proposed language, the BOD would
have to officialy vet one or more pro bono lawyers in every state of the
Union, as well as those in foreign coutries. Considering that laws differ
from state to state and from country to country, that sounds like either
like a logistical nightmare, an arbitrary selection process, or both.

How does the BOD define representation, then?
