Compatibility with Ubuntu 18.04?

Has anyone run into difficulty using Openslide with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS?  I upgraded from an earlier version, where openslide worked fine, and now it’s throwing an error from libcairo.  When I call from within Matlab:

Error using loadlibrary

There was an error loading the library

"/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libopenslide.so.0"

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2: undefined symbol:

FT_Get_Var_Design_Coordinates

Error in openslide_load_library (line 76)

loadlibrary(libName,'openslide-wrapper.h','alias','openslidelib',...

Caused by:

    Error using loaddefinedlibrary

    /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2: undefined symbol:

    FT_Get_Var_Design_Coordinates
