Hi All,
Your midterm scores should now be accessible to you on canvas.
GRADING SCALE:
In order to account for the error in the last question, I will do the
following.
1. We tabulated your score on questions 1-4 in addition to your
total score.
2. Your score will be converted to a grade using the following
(approximate) scale scale:
Score on questions 1-4:
18/20: Approximately bottom end of A-
15/20: Approximately bottom end of B-
12/20: Approximately bottom end of C-
9/20: Approximately bottom end of D-
Score on questions 1-5:
20/25: Approximately bottom end of A-
16/25: Approximately bottom end of B-
13/25: Approximately bottom end of C-
10/25: Approximately bottom end of D-
Your midterm grade will be the HIGHER of the above two grades.
According to the above (approximate) scale,
55 students got an approximate A- or higher,
25 students got at least an approximate B-, but not an A-
8 students got at least an approximate C-, but not an B-
6 students got at least an approximate D-, but not an C-
5 students got below an approximate D-.
VIEWING YOUR MIDTERMS:
Pittsburgh students, please go to David during his office hours. NY
students, the midterm will be in Diffy's office. You may view them in
the respective office (or scan them on your phone). However, following
MSCF policy, if you take them out of the office you may not request
regrading of any problems.
REGRADING POLICY:
If you believe a particular question has been graded incorrectly, then
you must do so in writing by email, or by leaving a post-it note on the
front of the exam indicating which question you want re-graded. Please
do NOT include any explanation or message. Your grade will be solely
based on our interpretation of what is written on the exam, and not on
any explanation you provide outside the exam.
We will cover up the original grade, and independently regrade the
requested question. The new grade will replace your old grade, EVEN IF
IT IS LOWER. I strongly recommend you read and understand the solutions
posted online before requesting a regrade, because your grade could
become lower.
See you in class shortly.
Best,
Gautam
