Hi All,

Just a quick friendly reminder about what your final will be like.
~~Don't~~ panic :).

    1. Your final is Tuesday May 7th, from 1:00PM to 4:00 PM in SH 125.

    2. It will be comprehensive, and cover everything up to and
including the Stokes and Divergence theorems.

I recommend reviewing all the material early and carefully. As mentioned
in class earlier, the format of the will be as follows:

    1. There will be 4 or 5 questions that are roughly the length and
       difficulty of the midterm.

    2. There will be about 3 questions that are a bit longer. At least
one will be a longish proof you have seen before (e.g. prove
Lagrange multipliers, implicit function theorem, Bolazno
Weierstrauss , and or one of the longish homework problems). At
least one will be a longish (but easier) proof that you haven't
seen before. One might even be a longish conceptual computation
(e.g. show parametrization invariance of surface integrals /
curvature, or derive a formula for surface integrals under
       coordinate changes.

    3. You have 3 hours. Your exam will likely have 8 questions or at most 9
questions. Ideally for the "longish" questions, you will have
about 30 to 40 minutes per question.

I have put up last years final and solutions. For practice, I also put
up many problems covering material from the whole semester as your last
homework assignment. (This is not due -- it is for practice only).

I will hold two office hours before the final:

    Friday 1:30 to 3:30
    Monday 9:30 to 12:00

(Just in case my office hours get too crowded for all of us to fit, we
will go to a different room and in that case I will leave a note on my
door saying where we are.)

Best,

Gautam

PS: Solutions to HW13 are online.
