Hi All,

Your midterm has been graded and will be returned to you in class
tomorrow. You can check your score online now (click the 'Your Grades'
link on the website). I hacked this together on short notice, so it
might not work well. If it does something unexpected please let me know.

In terms of letter grades:

    1. An "A" roughly corresponds to a score of late 20's out of 40.
This usually indicates you were able to solve 3 out of the four
       questions (modulo minor-ish errors).

    2. A "B" roughly corresponds to a score in the late teens, out of
       40. This usually indicates you were able to solve 2 out of the
       four questions (modulo minor-ish errors).

    3. A "C" roughly corresponds to a score in the early teens
(typically meaning you solved one question, and got some partial
       credit from others.)

One very common mistake I found on the midterm was with the last
question. Many people computed the partials at $x \neq 0$ and checked
that the limit of the partials as x \to 0 does not exist. Unfortunately
this says nothing about differentiablity of the function! A
differentiable need not have continuous partials!

Best,

Gautam
