Hi All,
Your midterm will be on Wed 2019-02-13 in class. It will be closed book,
and no computers / calculators / etc. can be used. It will cover
everything done in class from day one until whatever I finish today
(multivariable differentiation). It will NOT include the multivariable
chain rule, which I will likely cover on Friday.
In light of your midterm there will be no homework this week. Instead I
put up an optional homework with "one or two" problems on it. Most of
these are good practice for your exam so I recommend looking them over.
Some of them will be assigned as part of your regular homework next
week.
I will also put up 269 midterms from previous years. (Note I did things
a little differently before, so you might want to look at both midterm 1
and midterm 2 to account for the different times / syllabi).
You can expect at least one homework question (with possibly an evil
twist) to be on your exam.
The best preparation for an exam in a course like this is a consistent
and regular work. I recommend reviewing the material early, and trying a
variety of problems of different levels. Most people understand this
material best if you've had time to digest it, and practice doing
problems on your own.
I will extend my office hours this Friday from 1:30 to 3:30 (instead of
1:30 to 2:30 as in regular weeks). During the recitation next week, your
TA's will do a review.
